Local Cloud App Reviews

6 Customer Reviews:

Ive been looking for an Air Video for files kind of app for ages, and this is very close to that. Its easy to set up, links to my iPad with minimal effort, and I was able to pull files over wifi without having to fiddle with iTunes or cables. Theres only one thing Im hoping for in the future, and thats to be able to set more than one shared folder. Ive got things I want to get at stored all over my hard drive, and while one folder serves most of my needs, one or two more would pretty well take care of everything Id ever need. I dont think the app should only get four stars for that, because it still does exactly what its supposed to do, and it does it extremely well, so five stars it is. Thanks!

I tried to set this up, but kept getting the error that the local cloud folder couldnt be found. I just deleted the application on both mac and iOS devices. Too bad, because this looks like it could have been a good application, but I didnt want to spend the extra time figuring out why it didnt work after fiddling around with setup for 20 minutes.

Set-up Frustration

Not straight forward to set up. Frustrating if you think youre going to download the app and have it work seamlessly

The set-up literally does take just a few seconds - just read the guide on the ipad app before you start. Does just what it says — whatever you put in your shared folder on your mac pops up instantly on the ipad. Fantastic way to sync files.

This app (and its companions running under iOS) provide a simple but important capability: accessing files on a local computer that aren’t already being shared via another cloud-based solution. I use OneDrive and iCloud . . . but I also have over 5 Tb of images stored on RAID drives attached to my iMac. These are not shared in the cloud and because I use Lightroom (and Lightroom mobile) for image editing, the RAW files and scans are not in Photos. This solution is PERFECT for me because I can now lounge on my couch, iPhone 6 Plus or iPad Air in hand, grab large RAW files on my computer downstairs, and edit to my heart’s content. Unlike another reviewer, I didn’t find installation difficult at all . . . the directions were clear and once set up, it works flawlessly. No surprises. The one item I would suggest for the developer is that you provide an error message when the user creates their password and uses a special character. It was only through trial and error that I discovered that you don’t accept special characters (e.g. !,@,#) as part of the password string. Other than that . . . easy, peasy.
